Discover Sévérac castle in Aveyron
Sévérac castle overlooks the eponymous village of its hillock which rises to more than 800 meters above sea level. A magnificent panorama stretches before our eyes: from the green plains of the Aveyron Valley to the Causses highlands, find your way thanks to the orientation table. Sévérac d'Aveyron was built around this castle, and village life is punctuated by an extraordinary historical past: in summer, the town wakes up to the sound of street theater, guided tours of medieval buildings and the many activities that take place at the castle and in the village’s alleys.
As of the 10th century local lords established their stronghold at this strategic location. The castle has changed hands over the centuries: the Sévéracs, the Armagnacs and the Arpajons have taken it over one after another. The latter built the large Renaissance-style castle currently under restoration. Don’t miss a visit to this exceptional place, to discover the ramparts, curtain walls, chapel, watchtowers and kitchens. In season, many events take us back to the time of knights, while the sound and light show retraces the village’s history. Discover the castle’s and the medieval city’s fascinating history on your own thanks to the poetic digital tour "Balade des Grands Causses", available on App Store or Google Play.
