La Canourgue: a village with an exceptional heritage

The history of the town is rich in twists and turns: built around one of the 5 monasteries of Gévaudan and a castrum of which remains the "castle" district, the village has for millennia been one of the most important towns in Gévaudan. Famous throughout the ages for its canons, its burial chapel of Saint-Frézal, its wool-weaving inhabitants, the town then hosted tanneries and taweries. The streets still bear this exceptional story today.
